APPROACH
Our approach is to invest in partnerships with local leaders—in governments, First Nations, watershed organizations, and community groups—who know their local waterways the best and are working to ensure these waters sustain the life within them and the communities that depend upon them.
We believe that by listening and learning from local champions we will be more effective in the use of the Legacy Initiative’s resources.
Capacity support is focused in the following areas:
Catalyzing partnerships and projects to implement innovative
watershed-based planning and governance approaches.
Supporting and learning from Indigenous capacity & leadership in
watershed governance.
Creating a lasting legacy for BC by helping scale up innovative watershed governance approaches, for example, through the development of sustainable funding mechanisms, peer-to-peer learning and sharing of best practices.
